Element material selection is a critical component in the design process for any elastomeric coupling. This is no different for axially split tire elements. Some manufacturers use a high-load-capacity polyurethane bonded to metal clamp rings. At first glance, this material would appear to be a wise choice; polyurethane is a very strong material, and the primary function of a coupling is to transmit torque.
We continue to build growth momentum across all regions, with total orders growing 5 percent and revenues up 3 percent in Q3, while continuing with the business model transformation in Power Grids,” said ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer. “The combination of a stronger market orientation and a focus on high-growth segments, such as electric vehicle charging, robotics and food and beverage, is paying off.
The lifetime cost of the motor is an important factor in product decisions. What if you could lower the total cost of ownership for the motors in your centrifugal pump applications by achieving above NEMA premium efficiencies that save energy and ultimately pay back the motor? This webinar will look at a new technology in motor design that achieves ultra-high efficiencies when used with a VFD or DOL and lowers lifetime costs.

In the ongoing effort to provide a sustainable and safe food supply, choosing the right electric motor is of utmost importance, not only for the safety of the food, but for the life of the driven equipment. This webinar will explore the challenges of the modern food processing facility and how to employ the proper motor driven equipment to keep conveyors moving and pumps pumping, while at the same time ensuring a safe and viable food supply.
In all aspects of business, having dependable equipment is crucial to ensuring optimal performance and profitability. This couldn’t be truer in the feed and grain industry where time and productivity is of the essence. However, the conditions to which electric motors are exposed to in this environment are very different from typical electric motor applications like warehouses or manufacturing facilities.
We are excited to build upon the success of our Motor Mod Express® program from our main distribution warehouse in Fort Smith, Arkansas by opening our first regional modification center in Chicago, Illinois. The facility is an extension of our current sales office and warehouse and will utilize onsite inventory or inventory from warehouses in the region.
The Dodge Hydraulic ISAF (HISAF) mounted spherical roller bearing features a patented built-in hydraulic mounting system that makes this bearing simple to mount and dismount. Hydraulic pressure replaces physical labor, creating a safer and more accurate installation. The ease and precision of installation means less time is spent installing and removing the HISAF, reducing downtime on the equipment and labor costs associated with replacing bearings. Built to the same critical mounting dimensions as the industry standard SAF and SDAF, HISAF is a drop in interchange to existing equipment.

This rating can help end users choose equipment to prevent food safety issues. In recent years, food processing companies have incurred serious damages, including loss of sales and brand reputation, related to food recalls. Some individuals working for these companies with knowledge of potential contamination have been convicted of criminal liability, which can come with stiff fines or serious jail time. The reason is simple: food safety is a matter of life or death.
With their standardized designs and short lead times, the new N-series high voltage pre-engineered motors meet most common needs across a wide range of industries.

Always on the lookout for ways to reduce downtime and energy costs, chemical processors are turning to advanced motors and drives to help achieve these goals. Sometimes as integrated systems, sometimes not, new motors designed for premium efficiency and reliability and more sophisticated drives are helping processors increase availability and lower cost of ownership. Fortunately, motor and drive sup- pliers are working hard to provide top-notch equipment with modern features that can withstand the demanding applications found in the chemical processing environment.
Cost cutting on existing equipment will include using spares from idled equipment instead of buying new ones. While this may be necessary, it may not save money if the spare is improperly matched and installed. Low oil prices are greatly affecting the investment and installation of new pumping equipment. Cost cutting on existing equipment will include using spares from idled equipment instead of buying new ones. While this may be necessary, it may not save money if the spare is improperly matched and installed. Focusing on the same horsepower (hp), revolutions per minute (rpm), frame size and voltage is not enough. Ignoring five motor application considerations discussed in this article will cause additional downtime faster than expected.
Machine integration and automation should be planned in the conceptual phases of a machine project, says Baldor’s Kirkpatrick. "The amount of integration will usually have a considerable effect on the required wiring—control, power, communications—which must be accommodated in the design and installation phases," he says.
Downtime is often blamed on poor maintenance or lack of maintenance. Undoubtedly proper maintenance is important in keeping your conveyor in uptime and not downtime. However, there are many operators with exceptional maintenance practices who struggle with downtime. A contributing and often overlooked cause of downtime is the conveyor’s bearing selection.
Distributed intelligence has made motion control a much more valuable aspect of automation technology. Motion advances that employ smart actuators—from collaborative robots that can move like humans to modular platforms that simplify machine design—enable OEMs to produce machines that are faster, more accurate and less prone to breakdowns.
